About this policy
This page explains how current 17NOTE features handle data, including 17AI, 17PDF, and the companion character. 17 develops the app; you can contact us through the support page. This policy covers the app. The website has a separate policy.
What stays on your device
Study data such as subjects, timetables, tasks, and exams, file and annotation data, app settings, and chat history are kept in application storage on your device. They are used to provide the features you choose. Files you export or copies you create outside the app remain in your chosen destination.
Cloud conversations and attachments
When you use a cloud model, the request is sent to the provider you select. It may include your message, part of the earlier conversation, attached images, text or PDF content, and context available to the assistant. The provider also receives information needed to connect and process the request and may apply its own retention, training, and pricing policies. A consumer chat subscription does not necessarily include API access. Review the provider’s privacy policy and terms before connecting, including for a custom endpoint.
Study context and the companion
With study context enabled, the assistant can use a relevant summary of your subjects, tasks, dates, file titles, and selected activity within 17NOTE. This may include subject or teacher names, class locations you entered, and your time zone. This does not mean monitoring your other apps. Up to 100 recent activity events within a 14-day window are stored locally. Part of this context may be included in cloud chat requests. You can turn off context and control the companion in its settings.
Working with PDFs
When document access is enabled, content from the file or a page view may be used in your request, depending on the feature and model. You can turn off file reading in chat. Writing, drawing, and editing commands are applied within the document workspace and may contain mistakes; review changes and use save or undo as needed. FreeSVG or Wikimedia Commons may be used to find drawing references. These services receive the search phrase and standard connection information.
Local models and downloads
When a supported local model is selected, inference runs on the device. Downloading the model requires connecting to its source, such as Hugging Face, which receives normal connection information. Using a local model does not automatically make other internet-connected services local. Availability depends on device capabilities and storage.
Accounts and credentials
Connection credentials and API keys authorize requests to the selected provider. On Android, the app uses encrypted storage backed by Android Keystore for provider credentials. Storage mechanisms differ in other environments. Do not share keys through chat or support. You can disconnect a provider and revoke a key or authorization through your provider account.
Permissions
The app may request notification permission or access to images and files you select, depending on the feature and operating system. Manage permissions in your device settings. Turning off a permission can prevent the related feature from working.
Retention and deletion
Local content remains until you remove it using app controls or clear app data. The app provides controls for deleting conversations, resetting the companion, and clearing data. Back up important files before clearing data. Local deletion or disconnecting a provider does not remove exported copies or information retained by an external provider. Use that provider’s controls or contact it for its data.
Support and security
If you contact us, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you send to address your request. Share only what is necessary; you can request deletion of support correspondence by email. We use safeguards appropriate to storage and communication, but no method guarantees absolute security. Check external providers’ age requirements and terms before connecting accounts, especially for use by minors.
Changes and contact
This policy may change as features or data handling change. We will update the date on this page when it is revised. Use the support link on this page for questions or privacy requests.
